About Course
Are you hearing more and more about Artificial Intelligence (AI) but feeling uncertain about what it means for teaching and learning? Perhaps you are curious about its potential, concerned about its risks, or unsure how to use it effectively and responsibly in your classroom. If so, this course is designed for you.
Teachers in the Loop: Empowering Teacher AI Literacy for Ethical, Responsible, and Effective AI Use is a self-paced professional development program created specifically for educators who want to move beyond the hype and develop a practical, balanced understanding of Generative AI.
Developed by Nesma Nasr, PhD Candidate at Northern Arizona University, and offered in collaboration with AZTESOL, the Northern Arizona University College of Education, and the NAU STEM Department, this training empowers educators to become informed and confident users of AI while keeping teachers at the center of educational decision-making.
The program consists of approximately 69 minutes of microlearning content organized into four modules. The course is designed to help educators understand, evaluate, and effectively integrate Generative AI into educational settings while maintaining ethical, responsible, and pedagogically sound practices.
Training Modules

⢠Module 2 ā EthicalĀ Literacy: Ethical issues ofĀ AIĀ and how to address them using critical thinking
⢠Module 3 ā RhetoricalĀ Literacy: Writing effective prompts and staying in the loop as a teacher
⢠Module 4 ā PedagogicalĀ Literacy: ConnectingĀ AIĀ to learning theories and classroom practice

1. Identify what Generative AIĀ is and its possibilities and limitations (FunctionalĀ Literacy)
2. Explore how to teach responsibly withĀ AIĀ while addressing bias, privacy, and academic integrity (EthicalĀ Literacy)
3. Learn how to design better prompts and evaluateĀ AIĀ responses (RhetoricalĀ Literacy)
4. Discover classroom strategies for makingĀ AIĀ work in teaching without overreliance (PedagogicalĀ Literacy)
5. Apply everything in hands-on practice with tools, case studies, and ready-to-use strategies (PedagogicalĀ Literacy)
Eligibility
You should:
⢠Be 18 years or older
⢠Be an in-service teacher in the United States teaching English languageārelated subjects (literacy, humanities, ESL, ELL, ELA, or related fields)
- Ā Complete a 10ā15Ā minute surveyĀ before the training
- Ā Watch 69 minutes of microlearning videos (or attend four recorded sessions)
- CompleteĀ the sameĀ 10-15Ā minute surveyĀ after the training
- You might be invited to a 45-minute one-on-one Zoom interview
