Academic and Professional Background
Nesma Nasr is a Ph.D. candidate in Curriculum and Instruction at Northern Arizona University, specializing in literacy, instructional design, and bilingual/multicultural education. She has over twelve years of teaching experience in K–12 and higher education, including four years in the United States, where she has taught courses in Teaching Methods, Multilingual Education, Educational Technology, Practicum, and Teacher Preparation.
Her research centers on the integration of emerging technologies in education, with a focus on developing educators’ functional, ethical, rhetorical, and pedagogical literacies. Nesma has delivered more than fourteen presentations at prominent international conferences, including the American Educational Research Association (AERA) and the Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT).
She also serves in multiple leadership roles: Communication Officer for AECT’s Learner Engagement Division and Social Media and Website Editor for AERA’s Graduate Student Council. In recognition of her leadership and scholarly excellence, she was selected as the 2024 Earl F. Strohbehn Intern—one of AECT’s most competitive and prestigious graduate student honors. She additionally serves as a reviewer for several academic journals, including Education and Information Technologies. In April 2025, she was named Outstanding Ph.D. Student in Curriculum and Instruction by the College of Education at Northern Arizona University (NAU).
Beyond academia, Nesma remains closely connected to underrepresented communities. She leads an Arabic language and cultural program for families in Flagstaff.
