Description:
This session explores the practical integration of Generative AI (GenAI) to support English language instruction and curriculum development. Drawing from the development of the OER project “Arabian Nights,” the presenter will demonstrate how to design custom AI-driven conversational bots that provide real-time grammar support and cultural context within a Learning Management System (LMS). Participants will learn how to move beyond simple prompts to create structured “AI Teaching Assistants” that align with proficiency standards. We will also discuss techniques for validating AI-generated content to ensure linguistic accuracy and cultural appropriateness for college-level learners.
Who Should Attend:
K-12 Educators. Higher Education Faculty, Adult Education, Administrators, Instructional Coaches
Session Highlights:
- Participants will be able to design structured GenAI prompts that serve as virtual conversational partners for language learners.
- Participants will identify strategies for auditing and correcting AI-generated linguistic and visual content to maintain high pedagogical standards.
Takeaways for Attendees:
- Generative AI can support both students and instructors by acting as a real-time conversational partner and learning assistant.
- Effective AI use in TESOL requires intentional prompt design, not just casual chatbot interaction.
- Educators should carefully audit AI-generated content for linguistic accuracy, bias, and cultural sensitivity before classroom use.
- AI tools can help increase learner engagement while also supporting curriculum development and administrative efficiency.
- Integrating AI into language instruction can expand access to interactive learning experiences and modernize TESOL practices
